CODE VOULTERS

we are going to present a view of rovers, transformers and Wall-E to accomplish our mission in planet Mars. The Red planet which is not suitable for any form of life because of their environmental conditions, our robots might play essential role in examining few details like presence of water in mars where few missions are hazardous to humans.  As we know the robots are more efficient, consistent, they can help in various ways to achieve our ideology

INTRODUCTION

As a team we are curious in learning more about the Robotic technology. As robotic technology influences every aspect of work and home environment, we are interested in taking part in Robotics competitions. Global Warming and many other worldwide issues have inspired us to come up with solutions to make the world better place for living.

As a team we strive to be dedicated and contribute our best in Robotic events. Our team strength lies in cognitive thinking, innovative ideas and most importantly hard working in achieving our goals.

Team Background

INTRODUCTION

  • Our team participated in the rescue line category of RoboCup Junior 2017 in the Regional Level.

  • We have attended a five-day Robotics Training Camp sponsored by Mr RenyaKukuchi, in August 2018, held in Sri Lanka.

  • We have displayed our robots in Bangalore Tech Summit(BTS) and taken part in various inter-school competitions

INTRODUCTION

With the increased discovery of Near Earth Objects, a potential threat to our planet Earth exists. Finding a possibility of an alternative habitable environment for continuing the life of animal and plant species is of utmost importance.

PHASE 1 Empathize

As   space exploration is reaching new levels with the aid of growing technology and Mars being the most similar planet to our Earth in the Solar system, a study on Mars atmospheric and geographical conditions is a better way to start with. The study can be conducted for finding the presence of water; an inevitable factor for life sustenance is first step of the exploration.

PHASE 2 Define

We plan to carry out our space exploration project with the aid of two rovers: a master rover and a mini rover. The master rover is supposed to carry a mini rover inside it, take the pictures of mars and sent it to the main station. The function of the mini rover is to find the presence of water in the planet after its release from master rover.

PHASE 3 Ideate

The components required for the design and development of the robot is as follows :

  •  As an input to the robot, a Moisture sensor is included; its purpose is to find the moisture content of the soil in the planet. It has two conducting probes that act as a probe. It can measure the soil moisture content based on the resistance between the two conducting probes.

  •  The processor of our robot is an Arduino based motherboard with a Bluetooth module for the communication between the robot and an android application.

  •  The programming is done with the help of MIT App inventor customized version called Code2Play, which has a ‘drag and drop’ programming interface.

  •  For enabling different movements of our robot, we are using different types of motors such as DC Motors and servo motors.

  •  DC motors provides a 360º rotation in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions. This will help the wheels attached to the motor to rotate.

  •  Servo motors help in the movement of hands of the robot as well as opening and closure of the doors of the master rover for the release of the mini rover.

  •  LEDs have also been incorporated in our project; LEDs are those components which is capable of producing light in different colors upon the passage of electricity through it.

The design of the project is as follows:

We are planning to present our project with a video presentation along with the presentation of robot.

Step 1 :   Launching the rocket will be shown in  video presentation

Step 2 :   Master rover robot will be launched on to the ground for the exploration of  the planet.

Step 3 :   It will capture the pictures and send it to the main station. Pictures will be shown in video  presentation.

Step 4 :   Release of the mini rover from master rover.

Step 5 :   Mini Rover will start to explore for finding the presence of water in the planet.

Step 6 :   Once the presence of water is detected, a celebration will start with the dance of two transformer robots and a Wall-E robot .

PHASE 4 Prototype

We have tested the project and found that it is able to perform the function assigned to it successfully in a controlled environment.

PHASE 5 Test
2019-08-29.png

We have developed the project in a ‘Design Thinking’ based approach. There are five stages involved in a design thinking based approach for solving a problem, they are:

Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION

Our team had vast learning experience in Arduino programming. We are able to flexibly build the structure of our robots. As a team, we are capable of thinking logically, problem solving and cognitive learning. Often,we work together in order to creatively design a robot that functions well. We have developed interpersonal skills to articulate better understanding of the robots. To conclude, we have individually improved overall to pursue careers in AI and Robotics.

Team's Learning Experience

We have seen how Artificial Intelligence has performed with minimal human intervention and completing complex tasks without the need of human involvement. We are looking forward to implement these projects to find if planet Mars is suitable for any life. Also we are interested in enhancing the features of our robots to find more details in composition of rusty iron found on the ground. Being made mainly of water, a human being would die in a matter of days without it. Hence we can use our robots to extract details of the Red planet.
